Third Emissions Testing Self-Service Kiosk Goes Live in Chicago

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency enhances emissions testing program convenience for Chicago residents by introducing a third self-testing kiosk at the Chicago South Illinois Secretary of State (SOS) Facility at 9901 South Martin Luther King Drive. This kiosk is a new addition to our existing self-testing kiosks located at 6959 W. Forest Preserve Drive and 2560 West Cermak Road.

This Kiosk provides motorists with the opportunity to conveniently test their own vehicle during the regular business hours of the SOS facility, instead of visiting a traditional inspection station. While the kiosk is easy to use and requires no special knowledge of vehicles or testing, we recommend locating your vehicle’s Data Link Connector (DLC) prior to arriving to perform the test. Most DLCs can be found under the dashboard below the steering wheel. You can refer to your vehicle’s owner’s manual for exact DLC location information. Kiosk screens provide audio and pictorial instructions and step motorists through the testing process. There is also an instructional video on the kiosk which shows how to use the system. Kiosk test instructions are available in English or Spanish.

At the end of the test, motorists have the option to print their vehicle inspection report or obtain a copy online via the program website, www.illinoisairteam.net. They will also be asked to take a short survey (less than 30 seconds) regarding their experience at the kiosk.
